Carpenter® 20Cb-3® Stainless Steel Wire Mesh – Alloy Overview
Carpenter 20Cb-3 stainless steel wire mesh is a nickel-iron-chromium super alloy that contains added copper, molybdenum, and niobium (formerly named columbium), and displays properties common of both nickel and iron alloys. The added copper and molybdenum help improve resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting in hostile settings. The added niobium and low-carbon content help to stabilize the alloy to minimize carbide precipitation in welding. Aggressive environments which readily attack T-316 are excellent settings to substitute Carpenter 20Cb-3, especially those where hot sulfuric acid is present. Some characteristics of Carpenter 20Cb-3 stainless steel wire cloth which dictate its use are:
- Austenitic stainless steel.
- Exceptional corrosion resistance in phosphoric acid, nitric acid, and chlorides.
- Alloy of choice for use in sulfuric acid environments.
- Good mechanical properties at ambient & high temperatures up to ~930°F.
- Max operating temperature of 1900°F – 2000°F.
- Can be cut, formed, and welded.
Industries & Applications
