HASTELLOY® C-276 Wire Mesh – Alloy Overview

Hastelloy C-276 wire mesh (aka Alloy C-276) is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloy, with added iron (5.5%) and tungsten (3.75%), engineered to have superior resistance in a wide variety of severely corrosive environments. Its high nickel (~57%) and molybdenum (~16%) content give Alloy C-276 wire cloth excellent resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting in reducing environments. Its chromium (15.5%) content further provides excellent resistance in various oxidizing settings. Additionally, the low carbon (<=.01%) content of Hastelloy C-276 minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, allowing Alloy C-276 wire mesh to be used without subsequent annealing of the weld joints, even in severely corrosive environments. Some characteristics of Hastelloy C-276 wire cloth which dictate its use are:

  • One of the most versatile corrosion resistant alloys available.
  • Ideal for use in high-temperature, extremely corrosive chemical environments.
  • Superior corrosion resistance in broad range of industrial and chemical settings.
  • Able to resist corrosion against wet chlorine gas, chlorine dioxide, and hypochlorite.
  • Good for use in hydrofluoric acid; great for use against caustics and hydrochloric acid.
  • Excellent for use against pitting & crevice corrosion in chlorides, chloride stress corrosion cracking, and sulphuric acid.
  • Resists oxidation up to 1900°F temperatures.
  • Max operating temperature of 1800°F.
  • Can be cut, formed, and welded.

Industries & Applications

Hastelloy C-276 wire cloth is principally used in extremely corrosive reducing and oxidizing settings.
